Natrang institutes honors Sumeet Sharma

Jammu,Dec 23- Natrang Jammu launched ‘Artist of the year Award’ here today with the presentation of its first award to Sumeet Sharma for his outstanding contribution to Natrang during the current year. The Award carries Rs, 10,000 cash, a citation and a shawl. The award was presented by Natrang Director Balwant Thakur at a function which was presided over by eminent theatre personality Moti Lal Kemmu.
Speaking on the occasion Thakur said that ‘Natrang Artist of the year Award’ has been instituted to give new flip to the competitive spirit of Natrang artists. A three member team of experts will asses the work and the contribution of al the artists and the technicians working in Natrang and every year in the last week of December this award will be presented for the most outstanding contribution made by one individual in Natrang.
Sumeet Sharma during the year had written and directed three new plays for Natrang which included ‘Crazy Kiya Ray’ ‘Main Aisa Kyon-Main Waisa Kyon’ and ‘Cross Roads’. All these were his original creations and were appreciated distinctively both for their content and style. The most praiseworthy was his winning of Bismillah Khan Yuva Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for the year 2009 for direction in theatre. This National honor further elevated the repute of Natrang excellence all over the country. He also made a new beginning by making it to two National theatre festivals as director and participated Sangeet Natak Akademi’s National Awards Festival with the play ‘Mind Games’ and National Theatre Festival Gharwal University (Uttaranchal). Credit goes to him for making it to the International performance tour of Natrang. In addition to this he directed ‘Paisa Vasool’ and ‘Abhigiyan Shakuntlam’ for Sunday Theatre of Natrang. Sumeet Sharma became the first artist to have the prestigious honor of ‘Natrang Artist of the Year-2009’. Sumeet Sharma is currently working in BIG92.7 as promo producer.
Moti Lal Kemmu in his presidential address complimented Natrang for instituting this new award for the motivation and encouragement of theatre artists. In such a big country like ours, the encouragement to theatre art and artists in invisible. Such occasions will certainly be of great help in attracting young talents towards the field of theatre. Natrang has scaled International heights in the year 2009 and expressed hope that group will even take further departures from this point in the year 2010.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included Dr Jatinder Udhampuri former Director, Radio Kashmir, Jammu, Subash Jamwal. Ashutosh Sharma, and Suraj Singh, Subodh Jamwal.
