| Swine flu opens accounts in Jammu, two more tested positive | | | CHAMAN KAUL JAMMU, DEC 23: Dreaded swine flu opens its account with the death of one patient whose reports are awaited by the hospital authorities. Since the pandemic broke out in the state it was the death which occurred on the day when Union Health Minister was here on official tour to inaugurate health care centre. Though, doctors are of dubious views over the sensational death, stated that it could be confirmed only after the reports will be received from Lal Path Laboratory, New-Delhi. One girl has so far succumbed to swine flu in Kashmir already tallying tool to two in state so far. Deceased youth identified as Joginder Lal son of Khukhu Ram resident of Kheri, Bishnah developed complaint of chest congestion and influenza four days ago. He was admitted in GMC hospital in ward no 15, where his treatment was going on. On Wednesday doctors suspected swine flu symptoms with him and rushed him in special ward where he breathed his last. Senior doctor in GMC, when contacted informed that his swap has been sent to Dr Lal Path private laboratory in Delhi and it could be confirmed only after receiving reports whether the youth died of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome or of swine flu. The report is expected to reach by tomorrow, he said. Meanwhile, two more people have tested positive for the swine flu in Jammu and Kashmir, taking the total number of H1N1 influenza cases to 54 in the state, health officials informed. Four suspected cases of swine flu were reported from the state, two of them have tested positive, they added. Two are students of Government Medical College here and have been put on Tamiflu and their condition is stated to be stable. "All the patients who tested positive to swine flu have responded well to Tamiflu and they were improving after receiving treatment," R S Charak, Nodal officer, dealing swine flu cases said, adding government has enough stocks of medicines to treat influenza. Death of youth is to cause concern among the patients who have tested positive as other than Tamiflu no advanced treatment of the disease is available in the state, said a retired doctor and added despite Union Health Minister being son of soil no special arrangements has been done to deal with the fatal disease. Minister for Health Sham Lal Sharma when contacted said that if the rate of deaths due to swine flu increases then it is really cause of concern and the ministry will not leave opportunity to make efforts for adequate arrangements to deal with the disease. He however, said that as per his reports all the patients tested positive were responding well to the drugs given to them.
