| Would lead to a worse situation that of 1953, alleges Gupta | | WG report on Centre-state relations widely criticized | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 25- The report of the Working Group on State-Centre relations, submitted by Chairman (Retd) Justice Sagir Ahmed to the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the other day, has been widely criticized. Describing the report as part of a sinister design set in motion under the much controversial slogan of Quiet Diplomacy, the BJP legislator party leader Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta observed this would lead to a worse situation than that prevailed in Jammu and Kashmir in 1953, when the then Prime Minister of the State Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah was forced by the circumstances to get deposed and was put behind the bars by his own colleagues. Commenting upon the submission of the report by the Chairman to the Chief Minister of the State, instead of the Prime Minister, who had set up five Working Groups including this one, Prof. Gupta said this clearly exposes the design at work as the Prime Minister had tried to keep his powder dry because this was bound to lead to serious repercussions. He said the most unfortunate part of this melodrama was that a retired justice has been dragged into a controversy in a matter, which is loaded with several internal and external dimensions. He warned that people of this State, especially those of Jammu and Ladakh are not going to tolerate all this despotic approach and the Congressmen, particularly those of Jammu would have to be answerable to the masses that why they are mum over the onslaught which is being forced to deprive the people of their basic democratic rights. The Congress leadership had been playing foul in the past too, but this time it would have serious implications on the future of this troubled State of Jammu and Kashmir. He further said that Justice Ahmed has been mysteriously sleeping on this issue for the past over 27 months and suddenly came up with a report which was not prepared in consultation even with the members of the Group and the suggestions have been made for the revival of the National Conference Autonomy Report which was out rightly rejected by the Government at the Centre during NDA regime as it was aimed at reversal of the integration process of this State with the rest of the country. Questioning the vision of the UPA Government at the centre, the BJP leader said that if the pre-1953 status is to be resorted under the name of Autonomy, the Congress leadership must explain to the countrymen, more so, the people of this unfortunate State that why they had put late Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah in jail for so many long years and why a situation was created leading to the death of so many persons as also crores were spent to prosecute the Sheikh on charges of treason and working against the interests of the country at the behest of certain foreign forces. Terming the report as a farce and against the interests of the nationalist people, Prof. Gupta said that under communal outlook the interests of Jammu and Ladakh have been totally ignored and if this report is implemented, the future of the Gujjar-Bakerwals and so many other people would also be jeopardized, he added. Prof. Gupta also pointed out that the Report of Justice Ahmed was an attempt to continue the subjugation of people of Jammu as it has been justified the putting the issue of Delimitation of Assembly constituencies in abeyance till 2026, which was designed by the National Government in 2001, taking advantage of the obnoxious Article 370 of the Indian Constitution. All Jammu and Kashmir Pahari Speaking Youth Forum (AJKPSYF) has also criticized the Working Groups report on State-Centre by saying that it ignored Pahari people. Addressing media persons here today, Gurdev Singh Thakur said that Working Groups recommendation squarely ignored the demand of granting Scheduled Tribe status to Pahari speaking people, which was very shocking and unfortunate. Sajaad Iqbal general secretary of the Forum appealed to the Pahari people to get united and raise their voice for their rights and support the demands including reservation in Central University of Jammu and Kashmir, appointment of Pahari people only to Pahari Advisory Board, due share to Pahari speaking leaders in State cabinet and others. Forum, however, warned to launch the agitation against the exclusion of demands of ST for Pahari people in Working Groups report. Among others who were present in the press conference included Shahid Ashraf Kjam, press secretary, Gursheesh Singh Tara, secretary, Sheraz Malik and Azhar Usmaan. Describing WG report a ‘biggest joke’ with the people of Jammu and Ladakh, Thakur Randhir Singh, former minister and President Nationalist Congress, has said that 90 percent of the members of the 5th Working Group are opposing the report. Out rightly rejecting the report, Randhir said Justice Sagir did nothing during the past 28 months excepting creating a dangerous situation between the three regions of the state. He said the report has opened a ‘Pandora box’ for all the political parties and social groups, as it has ignored several sections of the society like Gujjars and Bakerwals, refugees of 1947, 1965, 1971, migrants and Backward Classes. Singh asked the members of the WG as to what they were doing in these 28 months and they owe an explanation to the people of Jammu and Ladakh particularly. He said the Working Group was formed to suggest means to cement the relations between the three regions of the state and find ways to help the ignored sections of the society but regretted that contrary to this, the WG in its report has created a wedge between the State and the Centre and Kashmir and Jammu regions.
