Schools resort to malpractice for better results in board exams
12/25/2009 11:32:58 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Dec 25: Contrary to the claims of the School Education Department that steps are being taken to safeguard the interests of students studying in government as well as private schools, majority of schools have resorted to malpractice of forcing Class X and Class XII students, who are most likely to fail, appear as private candidates in board exams.
As per the survey conducted by a local news agency, it was revealed that the parents generally fall prey to the catchy words and advertisements appearing in various newspapers and local electronic channels issued by the various schools.
“All the schools including those run by the Government, have resorted to malpractice of forcing the students of Class X and Class XII, who are most likely to fail, appear as private candidates in board exams. These students are generally not allowed to appear on the rolls of the school,” said the survey report.
However, the principals of most of the schools, government as well as private institutions, refuted such allegations and said that such a thing is going on but the insiders admitted that weak students are being forced by the school authorities to appear as private candidates in board exams.
“Weak students are being forced to appear as private candidates in board exams. The slogan of 100 per cent board result is not purely by the virtue of their teaching hard work and dedication but by virtue of precluding the students who are likely to fail and compel them to appear as private candidates and not on the rolls of the school,” the students said.
The survey further said that the gazette published by Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) only takes into consideration the students appearing on the rolls of the school, adding “it fails to see how many were actually studying in the school and how many appeared as private candidates.”
“The Government schools too are following such a malpractice owing to the fact that adverse results in the Board examination may results in stopping of their annual increments. But, the larger thing is who actually owes the responsibility of academically poor students,” said survey.
