Christmas celebrated with fervour, gaiety

JAMMU, Dec 25: The Christmas, marking the birth of Lord Jesus Christ, was celebrated today with great fervour and gaiety across Jammu region. The entire Jammu city adorned the celebratory look to mark the festival.
Santa Claus decorated in red blood attire with sporting masks and white feathery caps at every important outlet of the city was children and elders’ delight alike as families, couples and individuals made merry while shopping and loitering leisurely in the high profile zones of Kacchi Chawni, Trikuta Nagar, Gandhi Nagar and Pacca Danga areas.
The catching feature of a X-MAS celebration was conspicuous of certain Santa Clauses dancing on the tunes of ‘Desi’ (local) tunes and children and young joining the rapture near Monica Super Market Gandhinagar.
The Churches embellished with season’s best illuminations and priests dressed in spotless white waiting for his children to assemble for Christmas prayers was another feature that captured everybody’s fancy at St Peter’s Garrison at Gandhinagar and St Mary’s Church at Residency road
The Christmas carols and bursting of the crackers throughout the night kept the dark skies wondering about the heavenly bliss being showered on the earth as the people sang and danced throughout night to celebrate the occasion.
The Christmas trees were decorated extravagantly in different city churches befitting the occasion.
X-Mas marking the birth of Lord Jesus Christ is celebrated every 25th of December as Christians throughout the world make merry and are wished by the brethren of other community also.
There was a beeline of devotees in all Churches of the city which were adorned beautifully. The main function was held at Gandhinagar Church where the rush of the devotees continued since early in the morning. The devotees also joined the candle lighting and mass prayers.
There was also a heavy rush of devotees at the Church in Residency road, Karan Nagar, Bakshi Nagar, Muthi and other places. Christians locality was given a festive look with its residents were seen distributing sweets and greeting each other. People of other communities also greeted the members of Christian community on the occasion.
The hustle and bustle in various markets had the added charm of Santa Claus (Christmas Father) seen giving gifts to the people. In the evening large number of people again joined the candle lighting ceremony in the churches.
