| Professional audit a useful tool in Health Deptt: Sham | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, DECEMBER 27 – Minister for Health, Horticulture & Floriculture, Sham Lal Sharma has said that professional audit launched by the Government in the Health Department has started yielding dividends as substantial improvement in the healthcare and work culture has been noticed in the health institutions. The Minister said that the mechanism has proved very useful as health officials are striving hard to achieve the targets in their respective fields. The Minister was addressing a largely attended public meeting at Mishriwala about 15 kms from here after laying foundation stone of Primary Health Centre (PHC) building. Member Parliament, Mr. Madan Lal Sharma, former Minister Mr. Mula Ram, Director Health Services, Jammu, Dr. Jasbir Singh, Director Floriculture, Jammu, Mr. K.K.Sharma, prominent citizens and other officers of Health, Horticulture and Floriculture departments were present on the occasion.
The building of Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Mishriwala which was a long pending demand of the locals will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.75 crore within one year. The 2-storey building consists of five blocks including doctors residential quarters with a plinth area of 3728 sft. The project will be executed by the JKPCC. Sham said that functioning of all the District Hospitals has been further strengthened and patients would avail modern facilities for better health care in the State. He said that necessary instructions have already been circulated to all heads of the institutions to curb the practice of referring the patients with minor ailments to Tertiary Care Centres and only critical cases would be referred in such hospitals for specialized treatment. The concerned doctors have to record the specific reasons while referring the patients.
The Minister said that various steps have been initiated by the Government for the benefits of the poor people and senior citizens. He said that people living below poverty line and senior citizens are provided free medical treatment including clinical tests, medicines and ambulance services in all the Government hospitals. He said that adequate funds have been placed at the disposal of Chief Medical Officers and heads of the institutions to meet urgency arising out of any contingency.
Mr. Sharma said that Government has formulated a comprehensive programme to construct new hospital buildings to accommodate all health centres functioning in rented buildings in a phased manner. He said there is no dearth of funds in this regard and asked the officers to make judicious use of all resources.
