| First bilateral knee replacement surgery in MH | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 27- The 166 Military Hospital in Jammu achieved yet another milestone by performing, for the first time, a bilateral knee replacement operation. The surgery was possible after the recent up gradation of the Joint replacement cell by Commandant 166 Military Hospital Brig A K Das and his undying efforts to modernize the hospital and augment the existing facilities to enable extension of highly specialized services to the clientele. The complicated case of severe osteoarthritis of both the knees was taken up for simultaneous knee replacement by the Department of Orthopedics on 55 year old Samitri Devi wife of an ex serviceman who was admitted to the hospital with severe disability, pain and inability to walk for last one year. At home she was restricted to bed and could barely go to the toilet. She was taken for bilateral knee replacement in the same sitting to reduce her period of rehabilitation and shorten the period of hospitalization. The surgery was performed by Lt Col Chetan Sood, Orthopedic surgeon at 166 Military Hospital. The department of Orthopedics at 166 Military Hospital is well known for the performance of advanced surgical procedures in Joint replacement surgery, arthroscopic surgery, and geriatric and trauma surgery. Patients requiring these advanced procedures were at one time being referred to higher centers but now the facilities are available to the clientele at their doorstep in the city of Jammu.
