| Jammu to observe bandh against Justice Sageer WG report today | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 27 : Justice Sageer-headed Fifth Working Group’s (WG) recommendations on State-Centre relationship seems to be snowballing into a major controversy in this militancy-torn state with some major political parties flexing muscles to oppose the report. Several political and social parties, particularly from Jammu region and the Ladakh area, have expressed concern over the recommendations of Justice Sageer report, which was submitted to the state government on Wednesday. Taking a lead, Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) has called for Jammu bandh tomorrow to protest the ‘’anti-people’’ recommendations of the Fifth WG Committee constituted by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Addressing a press conference here today, JKNPP chairman termed the WG recommendations as trash, outdated and an anti-people report managed at the behest of ruling National Conference (NC) to justify its election manifesto. ‘’I have written a letter to the Prime Minister conveying feelings of majority of people in Jammu and Kashmir on the summary of Fifth WG report, which has been taken by people as election manifesto to National Conference,’’ Prof Singh said. The JKNPP leader observed that Justice Sageer had gone out of the way to please the ruling political party. ‘’the Supreme Court on Panthers Party’s appeal has already served notice to the as well as to the state as to why delimitation has not been conducted in J and K when delimitation was conducted throughout the country,’’Prof Singh said, stating that the Working Group had no jurisdiction to comment on the subject. He urged upon the Prime Minister to dismiss the report and call a meeting of the members of the Working Group to hear their views, alleging that the Working Group had ignored the recommendations of political parties on the Centre-State relation. Prof Singh appealed all the political, social, student and business organisations to come forward in support of bandh to strengthen the voice against the anti-people recommendations of the WG. ‘’Though we are not extending support to the bandh as to make it successful is duty of those who have given the call, but BJP, from the very beginning, strongly opposes the recommendations of Justice Sageer report’’ Prof Gupta said. ‘’We tooth and nail oppose the Fifth WG repot,’’ BJP legislative party leader Prof Chaman Lal Gupta said while talking to our correspondent. In a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister, Ladakh Union Territory Front (LUTF) said ‘’the WG repot is not acceptable to the people of Ladakh as it does not neflect the will and aspirations of people of the region. ‘’The report is a reflection of total non-application of mind as the final recommendations as submitted were never deliberated upon in the working group as no meeting has been held for the last more than two years.’’ According to the LUTF, the report will widen the gap between three parts of the state instead of bringing them together. Several student unions and social organisations have also conveyed strong resentment against the WG report. Meanwhile JSM President Verinder Gupta has strongly condemned this report that has recommended more Autonomy to the State and out rightly rejected the aspirations and the issues concerning the people of Jammu and Ladakh regions. It is a report of a communally biased person showing special favours to the National Conference and the secessionist elements of the Valley and has been prepared under the dictation of the National Conference leaders. Granting more autonomy means empowering these communal and separatist Kashmiri leaders to keep increasing their hegemony over other regions, he added. Regretting that the members of the Working Group were not taken into confidence and the genuine demands of the people of Jammu and those of the Ladakh region along-with that of Kashmiri Pandits have been out rightly rejected, the Morcha President said Justice Saghir has shown his lack of understanding and perception on various issues concerning the state and in particular then people of Jammu and Ladakh.
