| Talk on ‘Tibet: 50 yrs after’ by Parvez Dwan | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 28- Friends of Ladakh, Centre for the History and Culture of Jammu and Ladakh regions, University of Jammu and The Vijay Suri Foundation, is organizing a talk on ‘Tibet: Fifty years after’ by Parvez Dewan, well known author and a senior bureaucrat. The function is being held at the Conference Hall, Department of Strategic and Regional studies (DSRS), Social Sciences Block, University of Jammu, here tomorrow. Dewan, a well known author who has published fifteen books, six of them about the tourist attractions of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, is a serving member of the Indian Administrative Service. Besides, he has also completed a book on Himalayan Buddhism. He was one of the first authors to publish with Lonely Planet, Australia. One of his co-authored books was published by APA, Singapore ‘Tibet: Fifty years after’ was released by the Union Minister of Tourism Selja in New Delhi. The author will speak on various issues related to Tibet including whether Tibet been an independent land through history or not. This is what some—but not all—Tibetan nationalists say. The Chinese, on the other hand, believe that they have a historical claim to Tibet. The talk will also focus on the sub-themes like dilution of Tibet after 1959. The talk would also briefly cover two other issues including the extent of damage to monasteries and religious structures after 1959, and the number of Tibetans killed during their nationalist struggle since 1959.
