| Good governance: the much awaited is still awaited | | THE YEAR THAT WAS | |

Jammu, Dec 28: As the year draws to a close, a look back at the events connected to the issues of common man, it appears that delivery in expectations and the much promised good government is yet to hit Jammu and Kashmir.
The good governance in Jammu and Kashmir proved nothing more than a myth as some problems facing common man, like price hike, development, corruption and parking remain unresolved even after eleven months of collation regime.
There seems to be no check on the rates of essential kitchen items in market. The rates of consumable products including branded tea, toothpaste and shampoos have witnessed an increase while sugar and other eatables are also facing a constant rise making common man to ponder what he got after 6th Pay Commissions and what he had lost.
The protests staged by SRTC workers, Anganwari workers, Home guards, Unemployed Agriculture Technocrats and ITIians and others remained in the news through out the ending year 2009. Time and Again the use of force against the SRTC workers, Agriculture technocrats and others have been an book mark for coalition regime in the coming year.
Besides this the affairs of various developmental issues still remained in news for the alleged discrimination with the Jammu and Ladakh regions of the state. BJP and JKNPP MLAs every now and then in their scathing attack have targeted the present coalition regime and the UPA led Govt in Centre for not coming upto the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Ladakh only to the appease the valley based politicians. JKNPP MLA Harsh Dev Singh through the year has come on fore fronts to dare to challenge the tall claims of state government for ‘equity within the three regions of the state’ with the help of documents and statistics that Jammu and Ladakh are facing neglect from state government in terms of allocations of funds under state and centrally sponsored schemes.
He even has targeted the state and central government for discriminating the regions in terms of saving the environment also which is main issue of today’s world. He often pin pointed that both central and state governments have allocated Crores of Rupees to save Dal and others water bodies in Kashmir but observe nelson’s eye approach while dealing the same issue in Jammu.
Despite announcing a series of austerity measures for various government departments as well as ministers and bureaucrats to curtail unnecessary expenditure from the state finance department the things have remained same. The ministers and bureaucrats move with huge cavalcades and force of men wherever they go throwing the austerity measures to the winds.
Not only this local rural masses still have not come out of the green pastures shown by the NC during pre poll scenario and hope one day the NC would remember its promise of lowering the qualification bar for appointment of constables in Police department and Class IV category to middle pass and not matric as imposed by the erstwhile PDP-Congress government
Within the illusions created by the present regime people awaited the much hyped employment policy but that too has deflated their dreams. And now the Jammuites are looking forward for the New Year to come and wishing some good things to happen and end to the age old economic and political discrimination to the Jammu
