| ‘No more breach of discipline’ | | On 125th Congress foundation day, Chavan, Soz ask J&K leaders to bury hatchet or get politically buried | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Dec 28: On the anniversaries of all national stalwarts –Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi –they competed against each other but on the foundation day, the Congress leadership today dropped clear signals of displeasure that enough was enough indicated will to coax up the warring factions or cut the unbridled heroes to size.
Exactly a year after the Congress returned to ruling role after 2008 assembly elections and exactly 12 months of two factions pulling the cadres in different directions, the Congress General Secretary in-charge of Jammu and Kashmir Affairs, Prithvi Raj Chavan and party’s state president Prof Saifuddin Soz talked tough on the organizational discipline and asked the dissidents to fall in line or face action.
Words were no more subtle on the occasion of 125th foundation day of Congress for which Chavan, along with Soz, especially flew in to Jammu in a special air carrier to underline the important of their being in the state on party’s most important event in many years. As expected, the Congress lobby led by Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, owing allegiance to Union Health Minister Ghulam, was not only conspicuous by its absence from the town but also had a parallel ‘foundation day’ function at Banihal.
Addressing an impressive function organized by the PCC Chavan told partymen that no individual is above party whosoever he may be and it is the party and organization which is supreme and every one has to work under the organization to make it stronger in the state.
The Union Minister did not mince words in making clear that his reference was to Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand. Chavan said, “whether one is Deputy Chief Minister, Minister or Legislator, none can be allowed to breach the discipline of the party”. He added, any difference between the party leaders could be settled by negotiating on the table. Lending all credence to the major ruling partner National Conference, Chavan further said, “only chief minister of state enjoys full power as Congress President Sonia Gandhi has ordered to strengthen the coalition ties in the state”.
Commenting over recommendations of the Center-State working group headed by by Justice Saghir Ahmed, Chavan said that report is not a “final word” and dialogue would be encouraged with all sections of the society including separatists and party is moving in that direction upon the instructions of Sonia Gandhi. It is worth to remind that Congress has always said that it will play a role of facilitator.
Addressing on the occasion of celebration JKPCC Chief Prof. Saif-ud-Din Soz too stressed the need to strengthen the party by presenting a united face. “Party is supreme, whether one is Deputy Chief Minister or Minister everyone has to dedicate himself to the service of people as party is supreme in all the condition”. Soz said that Congress party is committed to provide services to masses and work in the development of the nation.
NSUI activists led by Rashid Choudhary took out an impressive rally from Gandhinagar which culminated at Vikram Chowk in which large number of activists participated. Activists were carrying flags and Placards and raised the slogans like Congress Party Zindabad, Rahul Gandhi Zindabad, Bharat Mata Ki Jay, NSUI Zindabad. At Bikram Chowk, the activists were addressed by Rashid Choudhary State President NSUI. He said that it is only Congress Party that can keep the country united and pave the path of development.
Meanwhile, Congress Seva Dal workers under the chairmanship of Balwinder Singh Sambyal State Chief Organizer held a function at Jammu to celebrate the 125th foundation day of Congress. Sambyal day said that in the year 1885 foundation of the Congress party laid by an English man H.M Hyum.
