| AJABM stages protest | | NC-Congress coalition harming interest of SC’s | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Dec 29
Hundreds of activists of Anusuchit Jaati Aarakshan Bachao Manch (AJABM) today staged a day-long protest at tehsil headquarter Hiranagar to protest against the purported move of the ruling National Conference-Congress coalition government to ban inter-district recruitment in the state. The protestors shouted anti-government slogans and alleged that the government has followed anti-SC policies. Addressing the AJABM activists, Bali Bhagat, former MLA and spokesman of the Manch, alleged that the state government has adopted anti-SC attitude and the same is clear from its reported move to ban inter-district recruitment. He further alleged that the proposal of the State government to ban inter-district and inter-province recruitments, appointments and selections in the State is, in fact, “intentionally” designed and “calculated” move to deprive the SC communities from their fundamental rights. “None can deny that no scheduled caste resides in any of the 12 districts of Kashmir province and the entire population of SCs of about 11 per cent of the state resides only in 10 districts of Jammu province. Does it mean that all the reserved posts of district level and provincial level of 12 districts of Kashmir province shall have no provision for accommodating under 8 per cent reservation the SC candidates from the 10 districts of Jammu province, despite the fact that there is no SC candidate residing in the valley who can claim the reservation,” Bali Bhagat questioned. The leader said that it is violation of the constitutional rights in the light of the proposed theory of the government engineered by some “master-minds” to block the doors for SCs of Jammu to seek and claim reservation benefits from Kashmir region. He declared that thousands of Manch activists would gherao the Civil Secretariat, Jammu during coming assembly budget session, if the government tries to impose a ban on inter-recruitment, adding that they would also organise protests at all tehsil headquarters in Jammu province. MLA Hiranagar, Durga Dass, assured that they would raise the issue in the next session of the assembly and urged all the elected representatives from all the political parties to come under the banner of the Manch and unitedly register their resentment against this move of the government. Vijay Sharma, Rashpal Verma, Rajinder Bakshi and Manch co-convenors, Surinder Bhagat and Jeet Angral also addressed the protestors. Meanwhile, the AJABM unanimously elected Ram Chand, ex-sarpanch as convenor, Bishan Dass, Mukhtyar Singh Bhagat and Bodh Raj, ex-sarpanch as co-convenors of tehsil Hiranagar.
