| RD asked to use fund judiciously, accelerate rural works | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, DECEMBER 29 – The Estimates Committee (EC) of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly today took a review of functioning of Rural Development Department in a meeting held here today under the Chairmanship of Mr. Mohammad Sharief Niaz MLA. The Committee directed the officers to ensure judicious use of funds besides accelerating the pace of all ongoing works so that the benefits of the schemes reach the people in a more organized manner. The Committee asked the concerned for re-verification of deserving cases under Indira Awas Yojna (IAY) and Below Poverty Line (BPL) at Panchayat level and display list for general information. The Committee also directed them to include the left out deserving cases in the list of beneficiaries. Appreciating the functioning of the department, the Chairman of the Committee directed the concerned to engage additional technical staff so as to achieve desired results from the schemes. He also asked them to create massive awareness among the people about job cards under National Rural Employment Guarantee Committee Act (NREGA) and other rural sanitation programmes. The meeting discussed various issues, including issuance of job cards under NREGA and Harayali. Legislators, Mr. Abdul Haq, Mr. Vikar Rasool Wani, Mr. Javid Mustafa Mir, Mr. Mohammad Yaseen Shah, Mr. Sajad Ahmad Kitchloo, Mr. Ajay Sadhotra, Director General, Accounts and Treasuries, Mr. Wali Mohammad Batt, Secretary, Legislative Assembly, M. Ramzan, Director, Rural Development Jammu, Mr. J.L. Bhagat, Director Rural Development, Kashmir, Mrs. Dilshad Khan, Director Sanitation, Mr. M.Y. Zargar and other concerned senior officers attended the meeting.
