| 2009 was best for Police: DGP | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 29: Despite some unpleasant incidents like Shopian controversy and Amandeep murder fiasco, the year 2009 was best for Jammu and Kashmir Police, its Director General says so. In his New Year message to the cops, the DGP Kuldeep Khoda complemented the force for significant decline in violence and credited the organization and new recruitments and opening up avenues of promotions among different ranks. Describing 2009 as the year of recruitment, Khoda said five new battalions were raised this year and several other posts were created to strengthen the manpower and to provide jobs to unemployed youth. "The year 2009 will go down in the annals of the state police history as the year of recruitment. The year saw government according sanction for creation of five more IRP battalions and also large number of additional posts in the executive police," DGP Kuldeep Khoda said.
"It was a challenging task to complete the recruitment process within a record time in a transparent and merit-based manner. As many as 7,067 candidates were selected as constables and followers under this recruitment drive aimed at strengthening the manpower in all the wings and to provide jobs to the unemployed youth," he said. The DGP said that terror incidents have come down by over 25 per cent in the current year and special emphasis is being laid on latest technology and weaponry to meet the challenge of militancy. "During 2008, the militancy related violence came down by 35 per cent as compared to the 2007 while during this year the terror violence has dropped by over 25 per cent", DGP said in his message. He said professional skills of police have helped in restoration of peace and normalcy in the state. Khoda said police with the assistance of security forces eliminated more than 50 self-styled commanders of different outfits during various anti-militancy operations this year.
