| Fillip to tourism propmtion along border areas in Jammu | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 30 : In a bid to woo tourists from across the country, the Jammu and Kashmir Government has released the first instalment of Rupees 1.69 lakh for the promotion of border tourism along the stretch of international border from district Kathua to Akhnoor sector, an administrative officer here today said. ''Despite the tense situation along the international border, there will be no change in the proposal as the first instalment of Rs 1.69 lakh has been released by the government to initially start work at Baba Chamliyal shrine, close to zero-line on Indo-Pak border in Ramgarh Sector,'' Sourav Bhagat, Deputy Commissioner Samba told .Mr Bhagat said the present situation along the borders, would not be bringing promotion of 'border tourism' to a standstill as the three-year project, which is to be completed at the cost of Rs 3.5 crore sanctioned by the state government has already started. The border tourism promotion, however, would not be affected by the 'infiltration attempts' made from across the fence recently, the administrative officer added. ''A 'shamlaat' land of 35 kanals near the site of Baba Chambliyal shrine has been transferred to the J and K Department of Tourism for constructing a Yatri Niwas with all basic facilities for the devotees,'' the DC informed. Mr Bhagat further said besides shrines close to the zero-line, other places of religious importance and picnic spots along the borders would also get special attention to attract more tourists. ''Not only Baba Chambliyal shrine, but all religious places and picnic spots along the stretch of International Border (IB) from Akhnoor to Kathua will get a facelift,'' he informed. For the past few months, numbers of infiltration attempts were made by the militants from various points along the international border in Jammu region besides the incidents of IED blasts in which a senior BSF officer of DIG rank was also killed.
