| Sahai asserted that once the trade starts moving between the two parts | | | Jammu,October 7, 2006. Emphasizing upon the imperativeness of opening trade routes between our state and Pakistan for economic and industrial development, President, Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Jammu Mr. Ram, a new era of peace, progress and economic prosperity would usher in the entire region. Addressing at a press conference convened here today, Mr. Sahai said that in the present scenario both the governments of India and Pakistan are engaged in dialogue process for the normalization of relations by way of creating mutual trust and congenial atmosphere for people to people contact. Although the dialogue process faced with many hiccups and hindrances due to certain incidents which sabotage the pace of normalization but still the basic wish of the people about the mutual cooperation and relations prevails and the process of dialogue is brought back on rails. He said that certain routes have been opened between Muzafarabad and Poonch- Rawalakot but the Chamber has been stressing upon the previous government and the present dispensation to start some more routes for widening the scope of more people meeting each other and also opening of trade routes between Nowdhera- Mirpur via Jhangarh and Suchetgarh- Sialkot. He stressed that if these two routes are opened for trade traffic and trade delegations people to people contact and relation would further strengthen. Mr. Sahai highlighted that under Government of India package of incentives many multi national companies like Gadila, Cipla, Sun Pharmaceuticals, Berger Paints, Jindal Industries, United Phosphorous Limited etc have started manufacturing of their products which are in demand in Pakistan and can be exported from our state if further these two routes are opened for Trade. He apprised that the tradable items have been identified in consultation with the trade bodies of POK and Pakistan. These tradable items include some of the proposed items for export namely medicines, rajmash, all kind of spices, haldi, coconut, basmati rice, dhania, anardana, fresh fruits, IMLI, black mushroom, handicraft items, shawls, carpets, namda, gabba, green tea (noon chai) and CTC tea, kesar, Basohli shawls, Basohli paintings, mutton, cement, saria (steel bars), paints, electronic items, power transformers, PVC pipes and fittings, willow clefts, walnuts and its kernels and automobiles parts like filter, forging chassis parts etc. While some of the proposed items for import include Mulathi and Herbal items, Google, Hermal, Kishmish, Badam, Chhuhara, Kale chole, Pulses, Moongi, rock Salt, Ladies Cotton suits and Molasses. We have been in touch with our counter parts across the Line of Control and International border for finding out the opportunities of trade promotion. We are assured that if these routes are opened, the people across the border will not only welcome it but will be more benefited so far as trade and commerce is concerned. Mr. Sahai apprised that in a meeting with the Chairman of the working group, Mr. M. K. Rasgotra, Commerce had submitted a memorandum requesting him to motivate the Government of India for pressurizing the Pakistan authorities for agreeing to the opening of Suchetgarh- Sialkot road and Nowshera- Mirpur road. He has not only appreciated the point of view but also assured that working group after taking all aspects into consideration shall strongly recommend our proposal, he added. It was apprised that for the first time that Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industry and J&K Chamber of Traders and Manufacturing Cooperative Limited (newly formed body representing traders of whole Kashmir province) have formed a coordinated group to jointly take up the issues of common trade between two parts particularly in the matter of opening of trade routes. A representation was already been submitted to Prime Minister of India requesting him to take up the issue with his counter part strongly and impress upon the Pakistan authorities to realize the positive benefits about the opening of these routes and sort out the matter as early as possible.
