Natrang creats historic records in 2009

In the year 2009, Natrang emerged as one of the most active theatre group of the country. With 85 shows and production of fifteen new plays Natrang broke its all time records by adding five National theatre festivals to its list of rarest achievements. This was disclosed here today by Natrang director Balwant Thakur in a press briefing held at Natrang Studio Theatre. In the year 2009, Natrang created history for being the first theatre group of the country which made it to six International Theatre festivals held in Russia, Germany, Poland and Hungary with the Dogri play ‘Ghumayee’. This rarest distinction has placed Natrang among the top ranking professional theatre groups of India. The most prominent new plays of the year included ‘An Inspector Calls’, ‘Sultaan’, ‘Naadi Payasi Thi’ ‘Teen Ekant’, ‘Crazy Kiya Ray’, ‘Poorav Aur Paschim’, ‘Bahu’ ‘Abhigiayan Shakuntlam’, ‘Rehearsal’,’Pantrebaaz’, ‘Kitty Party’, ‘Choo Lenge Aasmaan’, ‘Tere Jaisa Koi Kahan’, ‘Cross Roads’ and ‘Paisa Vasool’. In addition to this Natrang conducted three theatre workshops which included Children’s Theatre Camp-2009’ organized in collaboration with Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, Freshers Theatre workshop-2009 and one exclusive Theatre Workshop for girls. These specialized workshops were conducted by Sumeet Sharma, Ashish Nijhawan and Sunita Raina. Sumeet is a Post Graduate in Dramatics whereas Ashish Nijhawan and Sunita Raina came from National School of Drama, New Delhi.
The five National Theatre festivals of the year-2009 included ‘National Awards Festival of Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, 6th National Theatre Festival of Manch Rangmanch organized by National School of Drama, ‘Viraasat-2009’-a National Theatre Festival organized by Gharwal University (Uttaranchal), Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi’s National Theatre Festival and Orrisa National Theatre Festival-2009 (Bhuveneshwar)
Among other important accomplishments of theyear included the election of Balwant Thakur to the Finance Committee of National Academy of Music, Dance and Drama, nomination of Balwant Thakur to the Grants and Theatre Advisory Committee of Sangeet Natak Akademi, Bismillah Khan Yuva Sangeet Natak Akademi, Award to Sumeet Sharma, Balwant Thakur’s nomination to the International Theatre Screening Committee, and the selection of two Natrang students in National School of Drama and Film and Television Institute of India.
