EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Dec 30: Stepping its tirade against quiet diplomacy formula and recommendations of Working Group on strengthening State-Centre relations, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today warned the National Conference-Congress coalition for widespread protests if any attempt to dilute the sovereignty of the country is made.

The Party also observed that solution of Kashmir imbroglio lies in abrogation of Article 370, saying it has forced the state from separate status to separatism.

To express their total resentment and anger against the Working Group report suggested by its chairman Justice (retired) Sagheer Amhed, hundreds of party activists today staged a day-long dharna outside the Raj Bhawan where senior leaders, state office bearers, MLAs, district and Morcha presidents and councilors also took part.

Carrying placards and banners, the protestors shouted anti-government and anti-WG report slogans and demanded abrogation of Article 370 and setting up of delimitation commission in the state.

Addressing the protestors, Ashok Khajuria, state president said that the BJP totally rejects Sagheer Ahmed’s report as it was a “well-planned” conspiracy hatched by the NC-Congress coalition state government to harm the sentiments of nationalist forces in the state.

“The BJP has been demanding delimitation in the state for long as Jammu has more population, more area and difficult terrain as compared to Kashmir but Kashmir has more assembly seats, which is total discrimination and injustice with Jammu,” the BJP state chief asserted and added that timely delimitation is also a part of healthy democracy and by endorsing the deed of NC to freeze it till 2026, Justice Sagheer has made an “deliberate” attempt to “murder” democracy in order to please the ruling Congress and NC coalition partners.

He declared that the party would not sit quiet on the issue and agitate till it is not rejected by the government as well.

Chaman Lal Gupta, Leader of BJP Legislature Party, in his address, picked holes in Article 370 and alleged that this status is the main obstacle in state’s full integration with the rest of the country.

“Today questions are being raised over accession of the state. In fact, accession is complete and the BJP cadre would not allow any one to reopen the issue of accession. The question of reopening accession or diluting the integrational bonds with the rest of the country would amount to turning clock back and bowing down before fundamentalists and divisive forces which have no faith in secularism,” Gupta maintained.

He suggested that the government should rather stress on issues of public importance and work towards solving the problems and long pending demands of all refugees and migrants who are waiting for justice as their human rights have been violated.

Addressing the protestors, Member National Executive and former state president of the party, Nirmal Singh said that BJP would not accept the “so called” formula of quiet diplomacy. “There should be transparency in the talks with separatists. Otherwise the situation would further complicate the issue. Holding secret talks with the separatists sends a wrong message to the divisive and fundamentalist forces of the state and at the same time demoralises the nationalists of the state,” he said.

He, however, welcomes the suggestion of extension of Article 73 and 74 amendment of the constitution to the state of J&K. “Autonomy and self-rule are nothing but a brain child of mentally bankrupt politicians,” he said.

The dharna was organised by Jammu Mahanagar under Rajesh Gupta and attended by party activists from Akhnoor, Samba, Jammu and R S Pura districts.
