10/7/2006 11:51:30 PM
JAMMU | OCT 7
Asserting that he nationalists in the country including those of Jammu and Kashmir would not tolerate any reversal of the integration process, the former Union Minister and a senior leader of the BJP, Chaman Lal Gupta has ridiculed the slogans of self-rule, autonomy and creation of Republic within the republic of India as solution to the so-called Kashmir problem.
Such demands are being raised at the behest of certain foreign powers to create confusion about he future of Jammu and Kashmir, he added and alleged in fact such demands are part of the design of Pakistan which envisaged the slogan of demilitarization f Jammu and Kashmir and have self-rule in this state as was suggested by Pakistan’s President General Pervaz Musharraf who was playing his cards deverty.
Describing the political postures of the PDP as sheer opportunism and reminded that in 1965, when certain steps were taken of removal of anomalies and demolishing of signs of separatism between this state and the rest of India, the founder of the PDP, Mufti Mohd. Sayeed, Ghulam Rasool Kar and others under the great leadership of late G.M.Sadiq were amongst those movers and supporters who had loudly supported the constitutional amendment in March 1965, changing them nomenclature of the Sadar-e- Riyasat Governor and that of Prime Minster to Chief Minister. Afer Mufti Sayedd remained the minister both in the state as also at the center in addition to chief of the Pradesh Congress for so many years, why he did not made such a suggestions at that time, he questioned.
Prof. Gupta regretted that the problem in Kashmir has been that certain leaders had been frequently changing their stances just to exploit communal sentiments for their vote banks and Congress had always been wooing and appeasing such elements.
He impressed upon all the nationalists to take note of the developments in the state and nip the evil in the bud as any more delay would lead to creating more heat and problems in this troubled part of the country.
