| Police inaction lead to protests, NH blocked | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 30: Angered by the police inaction in tracing a youth missing from Londi area of Hiranagar since December 25 last, people today blocked the Jammu-Kathua stretch of the national highway at Londi Morh amidst raising of anti-police and anti-administration slogans.
Giving details, a police spokesman said 25-year-old Ashok Singh left home at Chhann Khatria in Hiranagar on December 25 for nearby Badana village where his sister lives.
He was not seen after that. He owned a scooter repair shop-cum-service station at Londi Morh.
The family approached Hiranagar police station for the registration of a missing report of Ashok. Since there was a confusion over the jurisdiction as Badana falls under the jurisdiction of Samba police station, no report was registered at either of the two police stations.
A deputation of Ashok's family members then called on deputy commissioner, Kathua, and apprised him of the matter. The spokesman said the people later returned peacefully following deupty commissioner' assurance that justice would be done in the case.
However, while returning homes, the angry people blocked the highway at Londi Morh at about 3 pm and raised slogans against police and civil administration. After protesting for more than two hours, they dispersed when on the intervention of tehsildar, Samba, a missing report was ultimately lodged with Hiranagar police station.Ashok's family members apprehend that he had been abducted by someone. |
