Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 31- As part of its Platinum Jubilee Celebrations, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has adopted Laddan village in Chenani block in District Udhampur for 100% financial inclusion through ICT initiatives in order to showcase it as one of its eight ‘model’ villages.
Disclosing that the village has been adopted by RBI for 100% financial inclusion though ICT initiatives, Arnab Roy RBI Regional Director for Jammu and Kashmir exhorted the banks, government departments and residents to actively associate themselves in the process of converting the village into a model village and extend full cooperation towards this end.
Roy said that RBI has decided to reach out to people living in the remotest parts of the country in order to explain to them as to how RBI as a public institution and as the 'central bank' of the country is uniquely placed to perform specific and challenging public responsibilities. He also detailed the steps that RBI is taking to safeguard the interests of the public at large and persuade them to be a part of the financial system of the country so that at least minimal banking services can be made available to them in order to achieve the ultimate goal of inclusive growth. The process of Financial Inclusion through Information and Communication Technology (ICT) model was explained to the villagers in detail highlighting the fact that with the implementation of this scheme every account holder would be able to operate his or her account from the village itself. The foolproof security features of the system were also explained to the audience and for the purpose Point of Sale (POS) machine and smart cards were shown to the audience with practical demonstration on its operation.
During the program, RBI familiarized the audience with functions of RBI and the features of various Government Sponsored Schemes.
