| Tipper plunges into Chenab; labourer killed, 4 injured | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 31: A tipper skidded off the road at Gurmail, about 10 km ahead of Batote near Assar, this morning and fell into river Chenab, resulting in the death of a labourer and critical injuries to four others. Overspeeding was stated to be the reason behind the mishap.Police sources said the ill-fated tipper (JK02AH/6589) was on its way from Batote to Doda, but when it reached Gurmul at about 10.45 am, it skidded off the road and plunged into the mighty river Chenab. A labourer was killed on the spot while four others, including the driver, sustained serious injuries, the sources added.A police rescue team, which reached the spot from the nearby Assar police station, shifted the dead and the injured to the roadside from where they were evacuated to the Batote hospital. The dead was identified as Bhola Bharti of Bihar and the injured as Sarod Bharti, Kamlesh Kumar, driver Mohammad Sharief, Mohammad Irshad and Mohammad Amin. While Sarod and Kamlesh hail from Bihar, Sharief, Irshad and Amin are residents of Baggar, which adjoins Gurmail. Following deterioration in their condition, the injured were referred to the Government Medical College Hospital here for advanced treatment.
