| Mehbooba advocates 33 percent reservation for women | | | JAMMU | OCT 7 Advocating 33 percent reservation for women in legislative assembly, local bodies and other democratic institutions, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president and member parliament Mehbooba Mufti has said that this was imperative for their empowerment and holistic development of the society. Addressing a largely attended women convention Mufti said that her party would endeavour to make 10 percent reservation for women in the next assembly elections. Asking Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to come forward and contribute their mite in the development of rural women, PDP president said that such organizations could arrange various job oriented training courses for them. Praising women, Mufit said that women and young people could play a significant role in bringing desired change of peace and tranquility in the state. She said when coalition government under the dynamic leadership of Mufti Mohammed Sayeed took over there was terror all over and slowly and gradually peace and tranquility started descending and people felt its impact. Strongly pleading the cause for the self-rule, Mehboba Mufti said that it will ensure equal opportunities of development and progress to people in all the three regions of the state. Self-rule will be enable people to take decisions of the government at their own level and curving the demand of segregations an freedom. A large number of women workers from various political parties joined PDP and pledged to strengthen the party at grass root level. Welcoming new entrants, Mufti said her party would give due to status to them. Referring to various demands of rural women, which include drinking water supply opening of school she said that they could refer the same to concerned ministers.
