Fresh wave of terror attacks
Pakistan being forced by terrorists to abandon military campaign
1/3/2010 8:53:06 AM

Early Times Report
Jammu,January 2 :-Pakistan continues to be in trouble with some stepup in the activities of terrorists. In fact these terrorists, especially the Talibans and the Al Qaeda, were trying to mount prssure on Islamabad for abandoning military operations against them.Panic continues to mount in Pakistan after the Friday suicide attack in a crowded volleyball field.People in Pakistan were trying to recover from the tremors of the recent sectarian clashes and arson,in which mor than 60 people were dad and over 75 wounded, when the entire country was rattled by the massive bomb explosionin which over 93 civilians were killed and 100 injured. It was the biggest explosion since October 28 when a car bomb explosion in a crowded market in Peshawar killed over 125 people.

Reports from across the border said that a suicide bombr blew up an explosive ladden double cabin pickup in the middle of a crowd that had gathered to watch volleyball match in Lakki Marwat area in NWFP on Friday.Eyewitness reports said that militant groups operating in south and North waziristan may have engineered the explosion to forc the Pakistani Army to abandon operations against the militants in south Waziristan.

According to thse reports, ever since the Pakistani Army launched operations against the Talibans and the Al Qaeda, first in the Swat valley and then in South Waziristan, terrorists have fanned in various areas of Pakistan for kicking up subversive violence.Imagine only Karachi thre were more than 35 incidents of bomb explosions and shootouts during the last 12 months.Islamabad belatedly realised the dangers to its very survival when the establishment was goaded by the US Government to act against the terrorist outfits lest they should convert Pakistan into a safe sanctuary for the terrorists all over the world.Since Islamabad had severe financial problems it had no other alternative but to implement the American plan when the US leadership hiked both military and nonmilitary aid to Pakistan. The American Government made a commitment to Islamabad that it would grant over 13 billion dollar military and nonmilitary aid to Pakistan and Islamabad accepted

it to prvent the country from facing bankruptcy.

Both th Talibans and the Al Qaeda are annoyed with the establishment in Islamabad over its surrender by allowing the US forces to use Pakistani soil for carrying out armed attacks on the terrorists in Afghanistan and on Pakistan-Afghan border. One report said that with NATO forces making it hot for the Talibans and the Al Qaeda in Afghanistan terrorists had started fleeing Afghanistan to enter Pakistan. It is in this connection that even while expressing grief over the loss of civilians the US secretary of state,Hillary Clinton, has suggested to Pakistan to stepup the military campaign against the terrorists on Afghan-Pakistan border.

Reports said that the Army commanders in Pakistan were reframing counter insurgency plan so that terrorists lost their teeth while planning of carrying out suicide attacks. What seems to have worried the Pakistani Army commanders is the way the terrorists have started targeting Government and security buildings in sensitive areas. One thing is certain if Islamabad slightly buckled under the pressure mounted by he terrorists going for Zardari led Government would be very difficult.
