| Harshdev, Rehman urge of preventive measures | | | JAMMU | OCT 7 Harshdev Singh, former Minster and MLA Ramnagar, has flayed the govt for its apathy and negligence in taking effective measures for prevention of the spread of dread dengue disease in J&K. He said that through the health deptt has sounded an alert in entire Jammu region after the detection of a patient who tested positive, but the authorities concerned have still to take the remedial measures. Expressing grave concern over the serious threat posed by the outbreak of this epidemic in various States including Northern India, Singh called upon the Govt. to set its Health and Medical Education Machinery in motion as J&K State is most frequented not only by tourists, pilgrims but security forces from different parts of the country. Singh called upon the Govt. to issue immediate instructions to all educational institutions to implement winter uniforms, full sleeve shirts and paints for students to prevent mosquito bites. He said that several states have already issued such instructions and the defaulting institutions are being penalized. He said such instructions must be issued forthwith to all Govt. as well as private educational institutions. He further called upon the Health Deptt. to expedite the spray of anti-dengue medicines on war footing in places of public gathering, in various water bodies which give birth to such mosquitoes and in other congested places. He advised involving all local bodies including Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils and Municipal Committees in the said exercise and equip them fully to deal with the situation. He further advised taking other educative measures for the information of general public through print and electronic media. He said that any laxity in the matter could lead to disastrous consequences. Meanwhile, expressing his concern over the increasing toll of ‘dengue bite’ in the neighboring Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and other parts of the Country. Samajwadi President Sheikh Abdul Rehman has assailed the State Government authorities for failure on their part to take necessary precautionary measures to prevent the said killer disease from spreading in this part. The alleged that no spray or for that matter no measures to clean stinking lanes, drains and stagnant water from low lying areas of the localities, have been taken in hadn, as a result the possibility of eruption of the dengue fever any time, in this part, can not be ruled out especially when thousands of people from the across the country, visit the state.
