56% plan spending reported in Shopian

Srinagar, Jan 3- A District Development Board meeting to review the progress of implementation of the Annual Plan 2009-10 for District Shopian was held at SKICC today under the chairmanship of Minister for Animal and Sheep husbandry, Science and Technology, Information Technology, Aga Syed Ruhulla.
District Development Commissioner, Shopian, Mr. A.M. Khanday told the meeting that the annual plan of the district for the year 2009-10 has been approved at Rs. 4964.78 lakh with additionalities of Rs. 1004.25 lakh. As against the availability of Rs. 4464.34 lakh, the expenditure ending November 2009 is of the order of Rs. 2505.29 lakh constituting 56% of expenditure on available funds.
The level of expenditure ending December 2009 works out at 67%, the meeting was told.
The District Development Commissioner, Shopian said that 22 R&B schemes are under execution in the district at an estimated cost of Rs. 2967.58 lakh. In addition work on Turka Wangan Bridge at Lassipora and Ganowpora bridge is also under progress.
Under the PHE sector while as seven water supply schemes are under implementation in the district at an estimated cost of Rs. 776.3 lakh, three Water Supply Schemes namely Chitragam, Harman, Wachi Mailhura are targeted for completion during this fiscal year 2009-10. Moreover, 39 schemes are under execution in the district through ARSWP to benefit the population of the district with sufficient drinking water facilities.
Similarly, five irrigation schemes have been targeted for completion during 2009-10 including Awaneera canal, Lakhtipora LIS, Zainapora canal, Natoo canal and Darbagh LIS.

Under NREGA, 321 works have been taken up, out of which 62 works stand completed ending November 2009 and Rs. 130.29 lakh expended, benefiting 20917 households. Similarly 1777 OBC students have been given pre-matric scholarship till date.

MLA Wachi Mtr. Mehbooba Mufti, MLA Shopian, Mr. Abdul Razak Wagay, MLC Showkat Hussain were also present in the review meeting. The members highlighted various issues of public concern especially related to power supply, damaged transformers, water shortage and availability of foodgrains and k-oil in Shopian district.
