| PDP criticises coalition over employment policy, RTI Act | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Jan 4 Describing employment policy announced by the National Conference led coalition government as “cruel joke” with unemployed youth, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today said that it (policy) doesn’t serve its basic purpose in the state. In a meeting held under senior PDP leader, Shahzad Khan in Rajouri, the Party while criticizing the state government, alleged that the policy would not provide any succor to the unemployed youth of the state rather would act as “rubbing salt to their wounds”. He also criticized the ruling dispensation for its “indifferent attitude” towards the problems being faced by the agricultural technocrats, the SKUAST employees, contractual employees, the unemployed ITI trained youth, home guard, PDD daily wagers and the SPOs. The PDP leader also lambasted the state government that Right To Information (RTI) Act has remained on papers so far. “The coalition government headed by Omar Abdullah had promised to make the RTI in J&K as effective as anywhere else in India. The delay in Habibullah’s arrival in the state has already created doubts about RTI set up in the state as neither is there any Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) nor are there any Information Commissioners in place,” he pointed out. He further criticized that there is no Public Information Officers (PIOs), Assistant public Information Officers in the departments. “It is highly unfortunate that the Estate department directly under the control of Chief Minister (CM) and the election department have not appointed PIOs. There is no public authority to publish any information booklet containing basic details about themselves,” he said, adding that he had sought information from District Development Commissioner Rajouri under RTI Act but unfortunately it had met with a neglect and cold response. He also took the government to task for imposing fee for RTI application and said, “For filling application one has to pay Rs 50 and single page of information (photostat) cost Rs10. This is an atrocious provision that would prevent the use of RTI Act by the poor and underprivileged.”
