Gujjar delegation meets Vohra, seek safeguards

A deputation of the Akhil Bhartiya Gurjar Mahasabha, Jammu and Kashmir Chapter, called on the Governor, Mr. N. N. Vohra, at Raj Bhavan, here today and presented a memorandum of their demands.
The 9-member delegation was led by the State President, Akhil Bhartiya Gurjar Mahasabha, Mr. Eshfaq-ur-Rehman Poswal.
The demands projected by the deputation, interalia, included creation of a Tribal Affairs Ministry in the J&K State Government, continuation of the system of inter-district recruitments to protect the interests of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, strict implementation of the reservation policy and rules and adoption and enactment in J&K of the Union Tribal Act, for the larger benefit of the Gujjars and Bakarwals.
The Governor gave a patient hearing to the deputation and assured that he would take up their demands with the Chief Minister, for early decisions.
The Principal Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Raj Kumar Goyal was present on the occasion.
