| New Integrated Child Development Scheme on anvil: Khan | | | Early Times Report Jammu January,04: The Residential School for blinds, Roop Nagar, Jammu today celebrated 201st birth anniversary of Louis Braille. The function was organised by Social Welfare Department to pay homage to this great personality who throughout his life stride for the welfare of destitute, despite being a blind himself. Secretary, Social Welfare Mr. M.S Khan was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Besides a large number of people, students of various schools, concerned officers of Social Welfare Department attended the function. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Khan threw light on the contribution of Louis Braille and said he worked with vigour for the welfare of blind people. He said that the Government has taken various measures for the welfare and upliftment of blind persons, adding that special educational institutions have been set-up to impart education to the blind children. He said technical institutions have been also setup to provide professional education to these special children to make them self reliant and enabling them to earn their livelihood. He said the Government is also providing financial assistance besides quota in Government jobs to blind youths, adding a new scheme under the banner of Integrated Child Development Programme would be introduced in the State under which the blind children could also be benefited. Among others Director School Education, Ms. Zahida Khan, and Director, Social Welfare Mr. Mahmood Rana also spoke on the occasion.
