| Police prosecution wing becomes rehabilitation center for blue eyed boys | | | Early Times report Jammu, Jan 4: Unrest is prevailing in the prosecution wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police as extensions of the retiring officers and recall of retired officers almost seems becoming an order rather than exception. Marring promotional prospects of various officers, two new extensions are on cards while decks are being cleared for appointing a retired prosecution officer as Advisor to the Director General of Police, Kuldeep Khoda. It has been reliably learnt that a proposal has been mooted to Government on false and fictitious recommendations for grant of extension to some officials who are already under extension of services since past two years and bringing back some retired officers at the cost and determent of eligible and deserving officers at the cost and disaffection among the Prosecution Cadre. To quote an instance one Joint Director namely Farooq Ahmed Kathwari who has achieved superannuation in the year 2008 was granted one time extension in March, 2008 and subsequently his services were extended again for another year and the same officer is being considered for third extension now. Another instance of an officer namely Baldev Singh (Director Prosecution) who has retired in the years 2008 was granted one time extension for the years 2008-09 and thereafter second extension was rejected by the government. Now another proposal has been moved to bring him back as an advisor to the DGP which has caused apprehensions and frustration among the cadre where a long queue is already awaiting for promotions due to stagnation. This all is being done in contravention to the government rules and regulation and decisions of Supreme Court and High Court passed from time to time in such matters. It is desirable that such extensions should be dispensed with so that the right of eligible and deserving officers and not jeopardized. When contacted, the Inspector General of Police (Personnel) Sheikh Owais said that he does not have any idea about this. He, however, said that such proposals, if any, are cleared by the government (read Home Department).
