| Gupta for amending Constitution for granting citizenship rights to refugees | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 5- The leader of the BJP Legislators Party, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta has asked the Congress to bring a Legislation in the Assembly seeking amendment in the State Constitution for grant of citizenship rights to the refugees from West Pakistan and also a provision for reservation of seats for the migrants from Pak held areas if they are really sincere in the solution of their long pending basic problems. Commenting upon the statements and lip sympathies being shown by the Congress leaders with refugees and displaced persons, Prof. Gupta said that the basic problem of Pakistan refugees was having citizenship rights in this State which have been denied to them for over six decades by the Congress and National Conference leaders by taking advantage of the obnoxious Article 370 of the Indian Constitution and than that of separate Constitution of the State. In both the cases an amendment is essential he said and offered his party’s support to the amendment if it is brought through legislation in the State Assembly. He said mere verbal promises would not work and reminded the coalition partners of their promises made in their election manifestos right from 1996 to 2008. Mere hollow and misleading promises as made by the PCC Chief Prof. Saif-ud Din-Soz at a rally at Vijaypur, will in no way help solve the burning problems of the refugees, he said and made it clear that unless amendment in the state constitution is not made the refugees problem won’t be solved. He charged the Congress for the outcome of so-called Azad Kashmir and the impending problems of the migrants from Pak held areas, in addition to migration of Kashmiri Pandits and other communities from the communally infected Valley of Kashmir and other parts of the State. The BJP leader felt that the report of the Justice (Retd) Sageer Ahmad would also add to the communal and regional tensions but for ill-conceived moves of the New Delhi leadership and the policies of appeasement towards secessionism and terrorism which too have its roots in the Article 370.
