Are Advisors to CM giving proper feed back?
Despite surprise checks, Omar yet to assess the problems of commoners
1/5/2010 11:39:50 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Jan 5: Even as having rounds of the city and its peripheries twice in past over a month to assess the working of police and other government agencies, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and his Advisors have not yet diagnosed the grievances of the people as well as the hardships of the pilgrims, who are bearing the brunt of ‘Men in Khakis and in Blues’ on routine basis.
Notwithstanding the tall claims of National Conference-Congress coalition government of providing good governance and corruption free administration to a common man, favouritism and corruption is ruling the roost.
Further, sources informed, fingers are also being pointed out towards the Advisors of Chief Minister who have failed to present a proper feed back to ‘Young Turk’ as where the things are wrong and where the situation is heading towards bad to worse.
Day before yesterday, Omar accompanied by wife Payal and sons, Zahid and Zamir, in-laws and his Political Advisor Devender Singh Rana, drove to Bari Brahmana and enjoyed ‘Dal’ and ‘Chapaatis’ at Bittu Da Dhaba. On way back, they had a halt at Annapurna Dhaba at Railway Station, here, where they all had a simple lunch.
Previous to the said visit, on December 17, last year, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah along with his Political Advisor, Devender Singh Rana had visited different parts of the city, without any security cover to check the policing at night hours. At that time also, Omar and Rana had stopped at ‘Billu Di Hatti’ in Gandhi Nagar locality here to have taste of Kababs.
To share his perception of security and traffic scenario in the city and outskirts, observed by him during sudden drive for one and a half hour, the Chief Minister also held a meeting of senior police officers including Director General of Police (DGP) Kuldeep Khoda, IGP Jammu Zone Ashok Gupta, IGP Traffic and SSPs of district and traffic police on December 18.
Amazingly, sources disclosed, despite surprise checks and warnings by the Chief Minister to desist from corrupt practices, there is hardly any change in the attitude of both Executive wing as well as Traffic wing of the state police. Both the wings are allegedly minting money from the persons-be it local or pilgrims or tourists traveling during late evening or late night hours.
If sources are to believed, any vehicle having registration number from other states is being stopped at several nakas laid on Jammu-Kathua national highway for checking of the documents. And if the driver of the vehicle fails to understand the reason behind checking, then persons/passengers traveling in the private or passenger vehicles are being asked to come out of the vehicle for frisking.
“While conducting such an activity, even the women and children are not spared. The vehicle is allowed to proceed further, only once the palms of the Cops on duty are greased,” revealed sources.
Notably, about 10 to 20 thousand of pilgrims/tourists are visiting the state either to pay obeisance at holy cave shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi or to enjoy the picturesque beauty of Patnitop, Sanasar and Kashmir Valley daily.
