| Bagh-e-Bahu Park losing charm, fountains dry, water channels muddy | | Proximity to Bahu Temple only high point for visitors, stagnation in influx witnessed | | EARLY TIMES REPORTER Jammu / July 21 Bagh-e-Bahu, the only noteworthy park in Jammu region, fast looses its charm due to the non-functioning of eye catching water fountains and ramshackle condition of all the water channels, which were constructed to enhance the beauty of the park. The craze about Bagh-e-Bahu Park is vanishing out of the minds of peoples especially tourists, as its proximity to Bahu Temple is the only high point about it. Stagnation in the influx of visitors also been witnessed in the last few years. This is the only park in Jammu region, where the systems were developed at par with some of the notable parks in India. But, from the past few years maintenance job is on a complete halt for the reasons best known to the park authorities. Different kinds of fountains and water channels were constructed in the park to add to the delight of the visitors. But, with the passage of time these fountains and water channels are stinking instead of adding delight. Water channels built up with the expenditure of millions of rupees are lying without desiltation and cleaning for years together. Even the eye catching step waterfalls are non functional from fairly long time and muddy water gathered there emanating foul smell much to the displeasure of the visitors.
“There is nothing worthwhile to enjoy here, as most of the water channels and fountains are lying in non operational condition. We are visiting this park only due to its proximity to Bahu Temple otherwise, there is no fun in visiting this park”, said Kulbhushan Arora, a visitor who came to the along with his family. “If the infrastructure is available here, then why park authorities are not utilizing it? Every body knows that it’s an age of presentation but, instead of beautifying the park, authorities are even neglecting the existing infrastructure which is capable of attracting many”, said Pankaj Anand, another visitor to the park. It is highly regrettable that Floriculture Department is sleeping over the matter and eluding the visitors of these magnificent glimpses. It’s a high time for authorities to step up their efforts to restore these artificial splendors to enchant the visitors, as tourists are now focusing more on Jammu region after the recent spurt of militant activities in Kashmir.
