| Bhalla distributes relief among militancy victims, refugees in Poonch | | | Early Times Report Poonch January 06:- Minister for Revenue Relief and Rehabilitation, Mr. Raman Bhalla on Wednesday distributed cheques worth Rs. 1.44 crore among 110 families, militancy hit victims and Rs 1.26 crore among 101 families displaced at the time of partition, at the rate of Rs.1.25, lakh each and handed over appointment orders to 12 persons under SRO-43. The Minister, who is on 2-day tour of the border district of Poonch, distributed the cheques and appointment orders to the beneficiaries at a function here today. Member Legislative Council, Mr. Jahangir Mir Senior functionaries of the District Administration were also present on the occasion. The financial assistance of Rs 1.25 lakh is being provided to the displaced families of 1947 as land deficiency compensation. Addressing the gathering, the Minister said that his Ministry was endeavoring to register all such displaced families, residing in different areas of the state and the Government would provide them financial assistance at large scale. The Minister said that there are about 2500 displaced families of 1947 residing in Poonch District, out of which 384 families were provided Rs. 25000 each, earlier, as land deficiency compensation and now after 62 years the Government has taken a positive step to enhance the rate of land deficiency compensation to Rs. 1.25 lakh. Mr. Bhalla said that the State Government, under the patronage of the Central Government, is making whole hearted and sincere efforts for raising the socio-economic condition of the militancy hit families, besides proper rehabilitation of the displaced families of 1947. Listing the measures being taken by the Government for development of the border town, Mr. Bhalla said Poonch town has been recently accorded status of LOC town whereby liberal funds are being provided for its speedy development. He said focus was being laid on creating infrastructure on ground to raise the living standard of the people of far off areas. He said the Government has sanctioned Rs. 39.40 crore for upgradation and maintenance of Poonch district roads. He asked the Deputy Commissioner Poonch to expedite the ongoing development works of lanes, drains and roads and ensure the completion in stipulated time. . He said that under BRGF, the Government has sanctioned Rs. 13.06 crore for providing drinking water, electricity and road connectivity in remote and far-off areas of the district. He said that Government has approved Rs. 43 crore for upgradation of Mandi-Fakla link road. He asked the Deputy Commissioner, Poonch to personally monitor the development works and the quality of material being used. Responding to the local demands, he directed for early clearance of 35 land compensation cases acquired for construction of roads under PMGSY so that the land owners get their due.
