Jammu, Jan 6- To protect the constitutional Rights of SC & ST communities, a new organization named “All J & K SC/ST United Front” was floated today. The decision to launch the front was taken at a high level meeting held here today in which several legislators, former legislators, corporators, prominent leaders and several activists belonging to the SC/ST communities participated. Daya Ram Bhagat, former Regional Manager, State Bank of India was unanimously elected as convenor of the Front.
The meeting decided to hold wider interaction with the members of these communities and chalked a detailed program of action for creating greater awareness among these communities about their constitutional rights, guarantees, reservation policy and rules as well as methodology to be adopted for protection thereof. After convening larger meeting in the third week of this month, group discussions, seminars, public meetings, dharnas and peaceful demonstrations would be organized in furtherance of the objectives of the Front, the meeting decided.
The meeting expressed serious concern over the proposal of the state Government to ban and restrict inter district and inter province recruitments in the state and described the move to deprive the SC and ST communities from availing of the full extent of reservation benefits. The prominent among those who participated in the meeting included Javed Rana, MLC, Prof Gharu Ram Bhagat and Bharat Bhushan both MLA’s, Bali Bhagat, former MLA, Mohammed Aslam Kohli, Anam Hafiz Choudhry, N.D Rajwal, Mohd Maqbool, Jeet Angral, Surinder Bhagat, Sanjay Bhagat, Mohd Azam Meelu, Moti Lal, Advocate and Adarsh Bhagat.
