| Lift conditions from employment package: UKPC | | |
EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Jan 6
Castigating the state government for putting conditions of the employment package recently announced by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, United Kashmiri Pandit Council (UKPC), a newly formed conglomerate of eight Kashmiri Pandit (KP) organisations, today rejected the package and demanded that conditions should be lifted with immediate effect. The representatives of the UKPC also made a fervent appeal to the government for lifting the conditions put on the employment package, saying that these conditions would make KPs “slaves” of majority community. Addressing the media persons here, Veer Saraf and other members of the front said that nearly 3000 posts announced by the government should not carry any conditions and normal employment rules be made applicable for the same. “Why are there conditions that KP youth would have to give undertaking that he would not seek transfer and he would lose job in case he left his place of posting?” questioned Veer Saraf, senior member of Roots in Kashmir organisation. “We are not opposed to our return back to valley, but it should not be dictated by narrow political considerations. We want a dignified homecoming”, said Sunil Fotedar, president Vision Kashmir, a youth organisation. Another KP leader, S K Bhat demanded that the government should increase the relief benefits so that those who are dependent on it are able to survive. While the KP leaders associated with various political parties like National Conference and Congress hailed the announcement by saying that it would pave way for the return and rehabilitation, majority of the displaced people have apprehensions about the scheme. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had on April 25, 2008 had announced Rs 1,618 crore package for the relief and rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits. In all 6,000 jobs are to be reserved. Kashmiri Hindu youth can apply for government jobs in the open category as well.
