| Timely action by Army saves nine lives | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 6- The timely action by the Army saved the lives of nine people traveling in a black Scorpio bearing registration No PB-15-D 7676. Two days ago near Nandini, on the Nagrota bypass, a black Scorpio coming from Vaishno Devi to Jammu, while over speeding, the Scorpio driver lost control and broke the cemented blocks of the edge on the road. Before the vehicle carrying nine people, including four women, could plunge into a deep ravine, the Army convoy of 267 Engineer Regiment, the integral Engineer Regiment of 19 Infantry Division, led by Lt Col JS Sodhi on its way to Srinagar rushed to the spot and swung into action and rescued all the passengers. Lt Col JS Sodhi immediately stopped his vehicle and rushed to the scene of the accident to rescue the civilians. He was assisted by Capt Mahesh Varma, Naik DM Pathare and Spr Ramdev who rescued the occupants from the dangling vehicle. The Scorpio which was dangling precariously was then retrieved with the help of Unit Recovery Vehicle. Thus, timely and prompt action by the Indian Army saved the lives of nine civilians. Those traveling in the Scorpio were Naveen Narula aged 20 years, 42 year Usha Narula 23 year Rahul Narula, Amit Batra aged 20 years, 21 year Ritu Batra, Sudesh Batra aged 45 years , 26 year Neeru Gawdi, Rajesh Gawdi aged 29 years besides driver of the vehicle Krishan. The occupants were residents of Muktsar District in Punjab.
