| Restore autonomy to J&K for peace in S. Asia : Shariq | | | By Annirudh Sharma Jammu , Jan 6 Senior National Conference leader and Lok Sabha MP Sharifuddin Shariq too has joined the for ‘autonomy to J&K’ and stressed that granting autonomy to Jammu and Kashmir would not only negate the wrongs done in the past but also would pave way for restoration of peace in south Asia. Since the Justice Saghir Ahmed report of V Working Group on Centre-State Relations was submitted to Chief minister Omer Abdullah it has snowballed a debate in political spheres in state but buoyant over the ‘lingo’ saying Autonomy possible upto some extent, the National Conference (NC) has geared up its campaign for its demand of ‘regional autonomy for J&K’. Member Parliament, Shariq while addressing party workers on January 4, at Qaziabad-Naugam in Sopore, said, “In our view, correcting past mistakes could satisfy the people of Jammu and Kashmir with regard to restoration of autonomy. It will also restore peace in entire South Asia." Earlier the party general secretary Sheikh Nazir Ahmad during a membership drive at Kulgam (Kashmir) has demanded withdrawal of all the laws enforced in the state after 1953. It is to mention that former Minister and Party MLA Mustafa Kamal too had hummed the similar tunes in various public rallies. Shiekh Nazir said, “Restoration of complete autonomy is the only solution to the problems being faced by the people. Therefore, it is imperative to withdraw all the laws enforced in the state after 1953 so that doors for imposing puppet governments on the people are closed." “The rollback will end the practice of [the Centre] imposing a puppet regime in the state”, Sheikh Nazir Ahmad. As far as Congress is concerned with this issue the party leadership evading any discussions simply tried to save its skin by saying Sageer’s Report is not a verdict but party is open for holding debate discussion on autonomy or other issues including self rule also to deliver equity among three regions of state as a whole. PCC (I) Chief Prof Saif-ud-din on the other day is reportedly being quoted Congress will facilitate dialogue with other parties and groups on Justice (Retd) Sagir Ahmed’s report and it doesn’t mean what NC proposes centre has to accept it.
