| No trade without moong dal | | Cross LoC traders meet, send warning note | |
SHAFIQ MIR Rajouri, Jan 6: With third consecutive week of no trade due to dispute on moong dal, the traders from both sides of Line of Control today had a path-breaking meeting at the facilitation center and decided to keep the trade suspended till hurdled were removed. The traders belonging to both the sides of divide met at Chaka- Da –Bagh crossing point on Wednesday and discussed the various issues related to the trade particularly the banned items. About 60 traders from Poonch side attended the meeting while 42 members of the trade groups of Pakistan occupied Kashmir took part in the meeting, said Trade facilitating officer Poonch VP Mina. The trade groups of both the sides accused both the governments of India and Pakistan for their non cooperation in the trade. Sources said, at least 60 traders of border district Poonch and at least 42 members of the business community of PoK held an emergency meeting at Chakan-Da-Bagh crossing point on Wednesday and discussed the various issues related to trade including the banned items by both the governments. Sources said, the trade groups of both the sides of LoC blamed their respective governments of their non cooperative attitude towards the cross LoC trade. The meeting continued about two and half hour but concluded without deciding any future course of action. The cross LoC trade facilitating officer at Poonch, VP Mina said that both the groups discussed various issues including the Moong Dal. However, the officer didn’t divulge the further details of the meeting. Sources said both the groups have again urged upon both the governments to lift the ban on the some of the trade items listed earlier. Speaking to this correspondent over phone, one of the traders Mohammad Hanief said that they have demanded that all the 21 items listed and cleared by both the governments should be allowed to trade including the Moong Dal beside establishing the telephone facility for the traders of both the sides so that they can easily discuss the market issue on day to day basis. Hanief said “beside this we have also demanded the use of currency in the trade instead of the exchange of ietems” He further said that there will be no trade till both the governments agree with their demands. It is pertinent to mention here that the cross LoC trade has been suspended by the traders in protest against the ban on Moong Dal supply from Pakistan.
