Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 8- Expressing grave concern over the delay in making the Ansari Commission report on 1989 anti- Sikh riots in Jammu to public, despite lapse of twenty years, Chairman National Sikh Front (NSF) S.Varinder Jeet Singh has appealed the Prime Minister Dr, Manmohan Singh to pressurize the state government to come up with the report at the earliest.
Addressing media persons here today Varinder Singh said 20 years are nearing completion of the anti -Sikh riots of 13th January, 1989 in Jammu city, still the Ansari Commission report on the riots has not been made public. He said that after 1989 there have been many incidents that occurred and on all these incidents, commissions were appointed and the reports made to public without initiating action against the culprits. He regretted that 1989 riots and the massacre of Sikhs at Chati Singpura in 1999 have been ignored as the reports have not been submitted till date.
He said the main anti-Sikh incidents took place in the state during the National Conference regime. In this connection he referred to the 1989 riots in Jammu, 1999 Chattisingh Pora massacre, Mahjoor Nagar incident, killing of Sikh truck driver at Sher- Bibi on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, cutting of hair of a Sikh youth in full public view in Kathua by a Government employee. He said that all these incidents took place during the Dr. Farooq Abdullah’s government. He said Sikhs are waiting for justice and alleged that the present Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is not interested in making these reports to public as his father Dr. Farooq has been found guilty. If these reports are made to public it would be clear that both National Conference and Farooq Abdullah are anti-Sikhm, Vareinder Singh claimed.
Kulwant Singh Bhatti, S.Harwinder Singh, S.Daljeet Singh, S.Gurcharan Singh Soodan and R.P.Singh were also present at the press conference.
