| Musharraf's bluff caught | | | In a tit for tat reaction to the launching of war of words by Pakistan government with India, the latter has caught bluff of President Parvez Musharraf that if India provides positive proofs of the involvement of Pak nationals' in the serial blasts in Mumbai on July 11, India has asked the former to hand over Hizbul Mujahideen Chief, Salah-ud-Din, a resident of Indian part of Jammu and Kashmir, spear heading terrorist activities against India, from Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pak occupied Kashmir. India has also asked Pakistan to hand over Dawood Ibrahim, who masterminded the serial blasts in Mumbai in 1999 and is also involve in several crimes including financial ones in India, who at present is finding safe sanctuary in Karachi and is carrying on business activities in Pakistan. These two anti-India persons, along with a large number of others, who are Indian nationals but have fled to Pakistan, after committing multiple crimes in this country, continue to be waging war against India from the soil under control of Pakistan. President Parvez Musharraf's declaration, in a television address to the nation the other day offering India to provide solid proof of the involvement of the individuals or groups indulging in terrorist activities in India, operating from the Pak territory, was meant to hoodwink the public opinion in his country as well as in India as also to throw dust in the eyes of USA and other western powers, who are pressing hard on him to act in a more determined way against the terrorist outfits operating from his land and indulging in acts of subversion and sabotage in other countries, mainly India. However, in a diplomatic reappraisal India has taken wind out of the sails of Pakistan by reiterating the demand for deportation of Dawood and Salah-ud-Din and handing them over to India, as they are wanted here in connection with various crimes committed by them. The demand to the fact to hand over 20 most wanted criminals, involved in terrorist acts in India, while operating from territory under Pak control was first made by the then Home Minister LK Advani to Pak President Parvez Musharraf when the latter had come to India and was holding parleys for friendship with then Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee at Agra. By making these demands India has put a litmus test before the Pak President about his sincerity and earnestness for ending hostilities with this country and starting a new chapter of friendship between the two big Asian powers. While this diplomatic tit for tat and one upmanship on the part of India in scoring victory over Pakistan in the wordy dual between the two countries is a welcome development, but much more reaction on the part of India to disarm Pakistan and blunt its capacity to bleed India is needed. For this India can depend upon the western powers only marginally, but shall have to bear the major brunt of any practical action to be taken to ensure that Pakistan is forced to desist from the path of confrontation with India by continuing to launch a proxy war on this country, through the third party of jehadi groups. Although US President George Bush has assured that in the war against terrorism India and USA are allies and America is with India in the hour of its crisis, as a result of terrorist strikes in Mumbai and J&K, yet the USA supplying warships and fighter planes to Pakistan at this moment is ominous. It should be proof enough to convince India that how much lip sympathy USA may pay to India, it is not going to take any strong action against Pakistan, including withholding of its commitment of aid to Pakistan, including in supplying war material.
