JKPF to hold discussion over Sagheer’s report on Jan 10
1/8/2010 11:11:24 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Jan 8

Jammu and Kashmir People’s Forum (JKPF) is holding a seminar and discussion over the recommendations of fifth Working Group on State-Centre relations suggested by Justice (retd) Sagheer Ahmed at Jammu Club on January 10 here.
“All the members of the Working Group have been invited to express their views for the consumption of the general public. The forum has taken this initiative in view of the confusion and wide spread resentment the report has generated,” Ramesh Sabharwal, convenor JKPF told reporters here.
The JKPF, principally an offshoot of erstwhile Shri Amarnath Yatra Sngahrsh Samiti (SAYSS), has taken an initiative to rope in some prominent national figures into its panel with Arun Jaitley, having given his consent for participation.
“The forum feels that the recommendations made in the report with regard to Article 370 of the Constitution of India are quite vague,” Sabharwal said, adding that though Autonomy and Self rule by the National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the report was silent about the opinion of other parties, groups and individuals.
He, however, maintained that the ball has simply been thrown in the Prime Minister’s court to take decision for restoration of Autonomy to the extent possible and that, too, after receipt of self rule document.
The convenor said that even since the release of report, the majority of political opinion in the three regions of the state is disappointed and worried over the manner in which the said repot has been handed over to the Chief Minister after 27 months of “inconclusive” deliberations held by its members in September 2007.
The forum had also invited Justice Sagheer Ahmed but due to his ill-health he might not be coming.
Meanwhile, Abdul Rahim Rather, Minister for Finance has also agreed to join the discussion, informed a leader of the forum.
He further informed that former Union Minister and in charge Jammu and Kashmir (Affairs) of the party, Shanta Kumar who is scheduled to come to Jammu for the conduct of BJP organizational elections too is likely to stay long to attend the meet which may add more teeth to the discussions.
Besides, other who have confirmed their participation in the JKPF meet is Harsh Dev Singh of Panthers Party, Ashwani Kumar Churungoo of Panun Kashmir, Thupstan Chhewang, ex MP and patron Ladakh Union Territory Front (LUTF), Surinder Singh President, Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (GPC), Ashwani Sharma, MLA and president Jammu State Morcha (JSM) Ch Aslam senior Congress leader, Sat Pal ex president (BSP) and others.
“A letter for participation has also been sent to People Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti also, the confirmation of which is awaited,” he informed. Sunil Sethi, President Bar Association Jammu (BAJ) would preside over the caucus.
