Khajuria calls on Omar, demands CBI probe
1/8/2010 11:11:45 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Jan 8

Maintaining that the National Conference led coalition government has adopted different yardstick, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has reiterated its demand of handing over “custodial” killing of Rajneesh Sharma in Munshi Ram Bagh Police Station of Srinagar city on October 5 to CBI for delivering justice to bereaved family.
Ashok Khajuria, BJP state president who called on the state Chief Minister Omar Abdullah last evening, took up the issue of “custodial” killing of Rajneesh Sharma and asked him to hand over the case to CBI.
“There is resentment among the Jammuites as the government has failed to take any action till date against those in the police who were responsible for his killing in Police custody,” the BJP chief said.
He also expressed his party’s concern and said that anyone who has committed crime should be punished-irrespective of his region or religion, adding that as Rajneesh Sharma belonged to Jammu, the government adopted different yardsticks.
Seeking the intervention of Chief Minister, Khajuria said that he should ensure that the case is handed over to CBI, besides taking action against all those officials who are responsible for delaying action against the culprits.
“The BJP fully supports the Mahila Sanrakshan Samiti (MSS), which is agitating for the last two months to deliver justice to the bereaved family of Rajneesh Sharma,” he said and declared that the BJP would not hesitate to openly support the MSS in case the government fails to fulfill the demand of inquiry by CBI.
Meanwhile, the core committee of the Mahila Sanrakshan Samiti (MSS), in order to garner support of different business, social and political organisations over Rajneesh killing and called on the Rajput Sabha president Narayan Singh and Bishan Singh Jamwal, general secretary and took up with them the issue of delay in taking any action against the guilty police officers.
The MSS committee members comprising Pankaja, Priya Sethi, Archna Koushal, Shilpi Verma, Anuradha Charak and Usha Choudhary, also called on Jain Bazaar Association president Arun Sethi and sought their support to pressurise the government so that justice is delivered to the family of Rajneesh Sharma by arresting the erring police officers from Srinagar and Jammu and registration of FIR under section 302 against them.
The presidents of both organisations, assured of their full support to MSS declaring that they would also raise the issue through their platforms.
