Kathua, Jan 8: Panic gripped the busy chowk of Kathua when an on duty Personal Security Officer of National Conference activist resorted indiscriminate firing under the influence of liquor. He was later overpowered by the people and was beaten to pulp. Later after the intervention of police the PSO was saved.
Panic gripped in the area when the cop identified as Devender Singh posted with NC activist Kishor Kumar Bakshi on duty under the influence of liquor resorted to indiscriminate firing. People rushed to safer places to save themselves. After firing the cop fell down in the busy Shahidi Chowk of Kathua. People thinking him a militant under the guise of police overpowered him. Soon a police party was reached on the spot. The PSO was rushed to the hospital where he was found under the influence of liquor.SSP Kathua Garib Dass when contacted informed that departmental inquiry would be taken against the erring cop besides action against NC activist who allowed his on duty PSO in consuming alcohol.
