| Three IEDs laden with 50 kg RDX seized; major tragedy averted | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 09: For the first time in the two-decade-long militant history of the state, a powerful improvised explosive device (IED) laden with 40 kg deadly RDX was today seized from a hideout of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) ultras in Gandoh area of Doda district. Two more IEDs of 5 kg each were also found. In 2004, packets of 300 kg RDX were seized from a car abandoned by the roadside between Pul-Doda and Doda city. The seizure was made on the day of first navratra when celebrations were on in Durga temples in the area. The car bore fake number plate on it. The today's seizure was made from a militant hideout carved out near Sheili nullah in Bangaroo Shalala forests of Gandoh in the morning. Official sources said acting on a tip-off about the presence of militants near Sheili nullah, jawans of 26 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), police and 76 CRPF laid a cordon around the area in the morning and launched a "seek and destroy" operation. During searches, the troops came across a hideout near the nullah. Its search them to the recovery of a 40-kg RDX-laden IED, two IEDs of 5 kg each, two highly-explosive Chinese grenades, 2 AK rifle magazines, three AK rounds, 10 rounds of Insas rifle, one mortar shell, two detonator switches, several pencil cells and 700 gms of heroine. The hideout was later smashed by the troops. Soon after the recovery, a red alert was sounded in the area. Troops were combing the area when reports last came in tonight.
