BSF top brass suspects latest Srinagar attack is a handwork of sleeper cells

Early Times Report
Srinagar | January 09
Baljit Singh, Inspector General of Border Security Force (BSF) overseeing Kashmir region said that there is no rise in infiltration and the suicide attack in was a handiwork of sleeper cells.
He said this at a reception hosted by the BSF on Friday, for a team of students from Kashmir valley who were taken on a tour of India.
Baljit Singh was reacting to the latest incident of soldiers gunning down two separatist militants holed up in a hotel in Srinagar after an almost two-day gun battle on Thursday "You cannot say that it (suicide militant attack in Srinagar) is only part of infiltration, it is done by the ones who have come earlier, or by the sleeping ducks. You see there was no incident for the last two years; this is their attempt to register their presence. I would say that their act is not successful," Baljit Singh.
He also said that security forces at the borders were alert to foil any infiltration bid.
"I will not say there is no infiltration but there are bids of infiltration. They (militants) are desperate in their attempt to make entry into Kashmir and disrupt peace. They (militants) have not been successful into it as of now. We hope that the Army and BSF who are deployed at the borders, are alert and have foiled almost all the recent bids," added Singh.
The armed militants had forced their way into the five-storey hotel in Srinagar on Wednesday killing a policeman. Another person died of injuries in hospital. (
