| Four of a family killed in avalanche | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 09: Four persons of a family were feared dead in an avalanche at Yaar Pullar, a remote hamlet on the upper reaches of snow-covered mountains in Padiarna area of Kishtwar Friday. Police sources said one Mohammad Yousaf of Yaar Padiarna was returning home from the nearby Lotan Dhar village Friday afternoon when a mass of snow and rocks came down rapidly from the wayside mountain and hit him. He was killed on the spot. When Yousaf did not return home, three of his family members -- Ghulam Hussain, Asif and Mohammad Yasin -- left for his search Friday evening. They too went missing and did not return home. Sources said they too were feared to have died in the avalanche. If all of them were buried under the avalanche, it was not easy to find them out as the weather was too hostile and it was constantly snowing in the area, the sources added. Sources said police teams from Padiarna police post and Kishtwar police station had been despatched to the area to help villagers find out the dead. "As it takes 16 to 18 hours to reach there, police parties were likely to be there by Sunday," the sources added. Four years back also, nearly half a dozen people were killed in the area in an avalanche.
