| Manhas appointed pradesh BJP chief | | | Early Times Report Shamsher Singh Manhas was today appointed President of Jammu and Kashmir unit of BJP.The appointment was announced by BJP National General Secretary Vijay Goel at a function here.Manhas has been serving as General Secretary in pradesh BJP for last three years. National Vice-President of BJP Shanta Kumar, Mayor of Jammu Municipal Corporation Kavinder Gupta, BJP Legislator Party leader and former Union Minister of State for defence Chaman Lal Gupta, several legislators and party functionaries were present. Meanwhile BJP today said it was not against "quiet diplomacy" to resolve the lingering Jammu and Kashmir problem, but the exercise should not be focused on vote bank politics. The party was not against involving different parties in the dialogue process in the state, BJP general secretary Vijay Goel said.But, the "quiet diplomacy" should not aim at vote bank politics, he said. The BJP also supported talks with Pakistan but the exercise could be successful only if Pakistan dismantled the terrorist infrastructure on its soil, he said. On the report of the working group on Jammu and Kashmir with regard to Centre-State ties, he said the party had rejected it. The members of the group were also against it as they were not taken into confidence while finalising the report, he alleged.
