| Sham kick-starts Pulse Polio campaign at Gandhi Nagar hospital | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, JANUARY 10 – Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma today launched Pulse Polio Immunization campaign for the year 2010 by administering polio drops to children at Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu. Eight new born babies among those administered polio drops by the Minister. Director Family Welfare and NRHM, Dr. Kulbushan Pandotra, Director Health Services, Jammu, Dr. Jasbir Singh, several senior doctors, para-medical staff and students of AMT Schools were present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister stressed the need for coordinated efforts to achieve desired results of the pulse polio campaign, adding that Government efforts would yield dividend only with the active support and cooperation of the social organizations, NGOs, para-military forces and allied agencies. He called upon the each segment of the society to supplement the Government efforts to eradicate the dreaded polio disease. He said results of successive pulse polio campaigns in past are very encouraging and no fresh case of polio has been reported from any part of the State in recent years. The Minister impressed upon the doctors and para-medics to adopt missionary approach in this noble cause and asked them to ensure that no one is left without pulse-polio immunization. He also stressed for effective awareness campaign in every nook and corner of the State to educate the masses about the need of timely immunization of their children.
