1/10/2010 11:25:34 PM

Early Times Report
Srinagar, Jan 10: Leh in Jammu and Kashmir was the coldest as the minimum temperature dipped to settle at -21.4 degrees Celsius.

Kargil recorded a minimum of -17.0 degrees Celsius and Srinagar -4.6 degrees Celsius, three degrees below normal, Met Office said.

The further drop in the night temperature in the city resulted in freezing of the banks of major water bodies, including Dal and Nigeen lakes.

However, the winter sun provided the much needed relief to the denizens.

The famous hill resort of Pahalgam in South, which was the coldest place in the valley yesterday with a minimum of -7 degrees Celsius, witnessed a marginal improvement with night temperature settling at -6.7 degrees Celsius.

The highway town of Qazigund experienced biting cold with a low of -4.7 degrees Celsius followed by Kupwara in North at -4.4 and Kokernag at -2.8 degrees Celsius.
